Shamus Overview
Shamus is a Game Boy Color title where the player navigates a large, multi-room complex to confront a foe known as the Shadow. The core activity involves moving through themed levels, avoiding hazards like electrified walls and enemy fire, while searching for keys to unlock doors.
Enemy robots patrol the maze-like rooms and will fire upon the player. A persistent challenge is that defeated foes can randomly reappear when a previously cleared room is revisited. The pacing is challenging, as lingering in one area will summon an invulnerable pursuer to force movement.
This version introduces narrative cutscenes and gives each of its four main levels a unique visual theme. The perspective is more confined than in earlier releases, with the camera zoomed in to show only a section of any given room at a time.
