Keitai Denjū Telefang: Speed Version is a Game Boy Color title where players assume the role of Shigeki, a human who becomes a T-Fanger after being transported to a world of monsters called Denjū. These creatures, which carry cell phones, engage in battles and form partnerships with humans to improve their combat abilities.
The core gameplay involves collecting Denjū by defeating them and then exchanging phone numbers. During battles, a player can field a team of three, but only the primary partner is immediately present; others must be called in, which can introduce a delay based on their location. Combat mechanics incorporate a six-element system where each alignment has a specific advantage over another.
Denjū can evolve through three distinct methods: reaching a required level, combining with specific items, or fusing with DNA from other species. These evolution paths offer different outcomes in terms of statistical growth. This version is paired with a separate Power Version, featuring a different roster of Denjū, some altered area designs, and the ability to trade monsters between the two games.
