Azure Dreams Overview
Azure Dreams is a Game Boy Color role playing game from Konami where the player controls a fifteen year old protagonist in the desert settlement of Monsbaiya. His father, a monster hunter, vanished in the Tower of Monstrosity years earlier, and the player's journey to ascend this structure begins after an introductory sequence.
Gameplay is focused almost entirely on this tower, which uses a random generator to create a new layout for each visit. The core activity involves encountering monsters, which can be fought or, if an egg is found before it hatches, tamed. Collected monsters will automatically engage enemies based on a set strategy. Players can combine monsters through fusion to create new ones, and a link cable allows for trading between two copies of the game, though direct battles are not supported.
This structure leads to a fair but potentially repetitive experience, mitigated by the procedural levels and the variety of creatures to collect. The title is also compatible with earlier Game Boy and Game Boy Pocket hardware.
