Ultima VI: The False Prophet Overview
Ultima VI: The False Prophet presents a narrative where the Avatar, after a rescue from gargoyle captors, uncovers that these invaders occupying Britannia's shrines have their own complex motives. The central objective becomes fostering peace between humans and gargoyles, moving beyond simple conflict.
Gameplay is structured around an open, continuous world without separate map screens, integrating all locations into a single explorable space. This environment is densely populated with interactive objects, and progression relies more on completing quests and detailed exploration than on combat. Encounters happen directly in the game world, preserving the series' turn-based system but eliminating transitional battle screens.
Interaction is supported through a redesigned interface combining keyboard commands, mouse input, and selectable icons. Dialogue systems are expanded, featuring extensive, character-specific topics and the ability to converse deeply with party members. Important keywords are highlighted during text displays to guide conversation, which often requires manual topic entry. Party management allows for splitting the group and controlling characters individually.
Player freedom is a hallmark; the world is open from the start, allowing locations to be visited in any order. While specific items and information are required to finish the main story, significant portions can be bypassed through prior knowledge or external assistance, making the overall pacing fair. A notable version released for the FM Towns platform includes full voice acting in both English and Japanese for all dialogue.
