The Romantic Blue Overview
The Romantic Blue is a DOS adventure game with horror elements, set in a nineteenth century village called ShadowCrest. The settlement is dominated by the Evil Sisterhood, led by High Priestess Morella, which enslaves the population and claims young women when they come of age.
Miranda, a local girl, seeks to rescue her beloved Jack from this fate. She uses dark magic to summon the player as an ally in this endeavor. Progress requires navigating dark environments like tunnels and crypts, solving puzzles, and managing resources. Currency found during exploration can be used to acquire items such as potions or weapons from in game shops.
Obstacles include supernatural creatures and locked doors, requiring keys and other solutions. The experience is built around exploration and puzzle solving rather than action sequences. The narrative is advanced through flashback cutscenes depicting the town's plight, supported by atmospheric audio. Interaction is handled through a text parser interface.
The physical release contained supplemental materials, including a map, a story book, an instruction manual, and several walkthroughs.
