The Goonies Overview
Based on the 1985 film, this DOS game follows a group of children known as the Goonies. Their objective is to locate a hidden pirate treasure to save their neighborhood from being repossessed. The search leads them into conflict with the Fratelli crime family, whose hideout sits above the treasure.
Players control Mikey, who must navigate through six distinct areas. Progress in each level is gated by collecting three keys, which are obtained by using bombs dropped by foes to open doors. Behind these doors, players can also find power-ups and trapped friends to rescue. Opposition comes in various forms, including rodents, skeletal remains, and gang members.
Points are awarded for gathering scattered valuables like diamonds, for freeing the other Goonies, and for defeating enemies. Mikey can confront threats using a slingshot or by kicking them. This particular computer adaptation was not distributed internationally, unlike a later console version made for the Japanese market.
