Oregon Trail game Overview
The game simulates a family's journey from Westport Landing to Oregon in 1847, a distance of two thousand miles that must be completed within forty weeks. Players begin with a wagon, two old horses, four rifles, and seven hundred dollars to manage initial purchases of supplies like oxen, food, bullets, and clothing.
Gameplay involves making recurring decisions that affect the journey's outcome. These include setting daily food rations, choosing whether to hunt, trade, or stop at forts for more expensive supplies, and responding to random events. Events encompass challenges like adverse weather, supply loss, illnesses, injuries, and encounters with other travelers or Indigenous peoples.
A preliminary target practice session tests the rifles before departure. The overall experience is challenging, with twenty one distinct skill levels available, ranging from a beginner setting at zero to an expert level at twenty.
