Monster Bash II Overview
Monster Bash II is a horror themed platform game where the player controls Johnny, who uses a slingshot. The core objective across its three episodes, totaling 28 levels, is to free captured pets by breaking the locks on their cages. A level cannot be finished until every pet is rescued.
Progression requires defeating a boss monster at the end of each episode. The first episode contains ten levels, while the subsequent two have nine each, with each episode featuring a boss level and a Miniboss. Player progress is managed through ten save slots per episode; loading a save returns the player to the start of that level. Health is fully restored when entering a new level, though any power ups collected are lost.
Level navigation involves interacting with environmental objects like spring loaded furniture, ladders, and, in one third episode level, a flying broomstick that introduces a more arcade style control scheme. The game includes a hint system, accessed with the F10 key, which provides developer written guidance specific to the current level, functioning as both a tutorial and a basic walkthrough.
Certain level designs were adjusted between versions. For instance, a challenging sequence in the shareware version's first episode, requiring precise jumps between light sockets, was simplified in the purchased release by adding a second socket. Another modification involved repositioning a dragon in a cave screen.
