D-Day: The Beginning of the End Overview
D-Day: The Beginning of the End is a turn-based wargame simulating the famous World War 2 battle. It utilizes the Micro Miniatures system from Impressions Games.
Command is exercised at a strategic level, where the player issues orders to various military units. The interface is primarily textual, using letters to denote unit types, with graphics and sound serving minimal roles. Players have the option to personally resolve individual engagements instead of leaving them to automated resolution.
Gameplay proceeds in turns where the player assigns all movement and actions before the opposing force executes its commands. Several tactical factors influence outcomes, such as terrain, the defensive readiness of enemy positions, and the condition of one's own forces including their morale, fatigue, and available movement. On challenging settings, a degree of command uncertainty is introduced as subordinate commanders may disregard or alter directives.
