Battles in Time Overview
Battles in Time is a turn-based strategy game where players command military forces across distinct historical and future settings. The premise involves a future Earth facing an alien threat, requiring prospective commanders to prove their strategic worth. This evaluation takes the form of a series of tests conducted by traveling through a timegate.
Gameplay operates on two interconnected levels. The primary strategic layer uses a hex-based map for moving stacks of units. Conflict is initiated when opposing stacks encounter each other, triggering a shift to a separate tactical combat mode. In this mode, the individual units within the stacks maneuver and fight on a smaller, detailed map.
The commander's journey spans four distinct time periods: prehistoric eras, the Roman Empire, World War II, and the year 2025. Successfully navigating the challenges presented in each of these periods is a prerequisite for the final confrontation. Only after passing all four tests is the player permitted to lead their assembled forces against the approaching alien threat.
