Last Action Hero Overview
Last Action Hero for the SNES adapts the film's premise into a hybrid action title. Its structure alternates between side-scrolling combat stages and driving sections, both presented from a two-dimensional perspective.
The combat levels loosely follow the movie's narrative, with scenarios drawn from both the fictional film world and the real world. Players navigate Jack Slater to an exit while a timer counts down, confronting assorted enemies who attack with weapons like bats, knives, and firearms. Defeating these foes is necessary to progress, and health can be restored by collecting movie tickets that appear. Each stage concludes with a boss encounter, featuring antagonists such as a helicopter and the primary villain, Benedict.
Between the brawling segments, driving sequences require Slater to maneuver a car to avoid obstacles and destroy enemy vehicles by using ramps to land on them. Brief cutscenes provide connective story tissue, though they do not strictly adhere to the film's plot. The gameplay presents a challenging pace, as players must manage both a depleting health meter and the constant pressure of the level timer.
