F1-ROC II: Race of Champions Overview
F1ROC II: Race of Champions is a Formula One racing simulation for the Super Nintendo. The career structure is challenging, requiring progression through three distinct tiers of competition. A driver begins in the lower-powered Group C series, advances to F-3000, and finally reaches the premier F-1 Grand Prix division.
Race circuits are twisting road courses that demand careful cornering, differing from oval track racing. Strategic elements include pre-race qualifying for grid position and mandatory pit stops for fuel, tires, and repairs. Performance in races earns prize money, which can be invested in car parts and upgrades.
Vehicle tuning is a detailed system where part combinations must be balanced; a setup favoring cornering may sacrifice straight-line speed, while excessive power can make a car unstable. The game includes a battery backup to save progress and features licensed cars from the 1992 season, such as the Williams FW14B and McLaren MP4. Success in the 16-race Grand Prix championship can allow a player to return the next year with a new car and sponsor.
