Pitfall: Beyond the Jungle Overview
Pitfall: Beyond the Jungle is a side-scrolling platformer for the Game Boy Color. The player guides Pitfall Harry Jr. through a portal into another dimension, where he must complete four worlds comprising fifteen levels to rescue people from a villain named Scourge.
Gameplay centers on precise jumping and navigation, with a variety of jump types that must be executed using the directional controls. These maneuvers are essential for progression, as levels feature obstacles like vines to catch in mid-air and floating snags that can be hooked with an axe. This axe also serves as Harry's sole means of defeating enemies, whose successful attacks will reduce his life energy.
While sharing its basic premise with a PlayStation release, the Game Boy Color version is otherwise a distinct experience. Mastering the movement and combat is necessary to overcome the game's challenges.
