Army Men Overview
Army Men for Game Boy Color adapts the premise of the initial PC title into a portable format, featuring the green army's Sarge in a conflict against tan plastic forces. The action is viewed from above, with players navigating missions that involve eliminating enemy soldiers or destroying specific vehicles and structures.
Progress is recorded through a password system across two campaigns, Desert and Arctic, which together contain 27 missions. These are organized into maps, each holding several objectives that differ from those in the original computer game. A training mode introduces the control scheme.
Gameplay involves using a rifle with unlimited ammunition or finding heavier, limited-use weapons such as bazookas and flamethrowers. Sarge can perform evasive maneuvers and even operate vehicles like jeeps and tanks. Certain strategic elements from the PC version, such as commanding a squad, are absent. The experience includes auditory feedback, with sampled voice lines from Sarge reacting to events like collecting a new weapon.
