Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Overview
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the Game Boy Advance is a 2D side-scrolling platformer that adapts the film's narrative. It launched simultaneously with the movie and with home console and PC editions, though its design is simplified for the handheld's capabilities.
The story centers on Charlie Bucket, a poor boy who loves chocolate. He seeks one of five golden tickets hidden in Wonka bars, which grant a factory tour and a chance at a grand prize. The adventure mode consists of 14 levels that loosely follow the film's plot.
Progression involves collecting specific items. Finding 25 square candies across eight levels unlocks illustrations for an in-game album, while gathering the letters spelling WONKA in five levels unlocks mini-games. Both the album and mini-games start empty, requiring the player to discover all content.
The game uses a life system where the player begins with five lives and a five-segment chocolate health bar. A full Wonka bar restores health. Running out of lives results in a game over, but play can resume from the start of the failed level. Completed levels can be replayed to find missed collectibles.
Three save slots are provided, each leading to a menu where players can select the main adventure, unlocked mini-games, or the illustration album.
