Yo! Joe! Beat the Ghosts is a platform game where players control graffiti artists Joe and Nat. These characters are fleeing the police in New York before finding themselves in a mysterious castle.
The gameplay involves navigating environments using actions like jumping, crawling, and swimming, with characters even able to hold their breath underwater. Players can engage in combat using various weapons such as molotov cocktails, chainsaws, and nunchakus. The objective is to defeat the antagonist known as Professor X.
The game supports a two-player mode on a single computer, with one player as Joe and the other as Nat. For solo play, Joe is the default character. The experience is made challenging by the absence of a save game feature. Furthermore, starting the game requires the original disk to be present as a form of copy protection.
