Paku Paku Overview
Paku Paku is a freeware adaptation of the Pac-Man formula designed for early IBM PC compatible systems. Its development originated from a technical demonstration focused on 16-color CGA graphics programming before expanding into a complete release.
The project aimed for high compatibility, supporting a range of period-specific graphics and sound hardware while remaining functional on the original IBM PC. All core arcade mechanics were translated to a lower-resolution grid, including dot collection, ghost evasion, and the use of power pills to temporarily reverse roles. The behavior patterns of the four pursuing ghosts were also recreated.
Complete source code in Turbo Pascal and assembly was released into the public domain alongside the game. The design intent was to maintain fidelity to the original arcade gameplay within the technical constraints of its target platform.
