Laser Squad Overview
Laser Squad is a turn based tactical game where players manage a team of soldiers and cyborgs in a science fiction setting. Missions are viewed from an overhead perspective and involve strategic planning before combat begins.
A key pre mission phase requires allocating a fixed budget to equip each squad member with weapons and armor, considering their unique capabilities. Character progression is absent, as units do not improve through accumulated experience over multiple missions.
The original release contained three distinct scenarios. These included an assassination attempt, an assault on a lunar base to destroy a corporate database, and a non violent rescue operation. Later versions expanded this with two additional missions, one focusing on defensive operations against a droid army and another involving an escape with vital technical data. A separate mail order expansion introduced two further scenarios.
Beyond the single player campaigns, the game offers a challenging two player option for direct competition using a shared computer system.
