Jurassic War Overview
Jurassic War is a prehistoric real time strategy title that incorporates role playing mechanics. Its visual presentation and unit control scheme bear a strong resemblance to Warcraft. Players select from different tribes at the start, each possessing basic units capable of advancement and unique high tier units such as magicians.
The core RPG system is an experience mechanic gained from combat. Any unit, including animals hunted for the game's sole resource of food, accrues experience from kills. This progression is managed through six individual attribute bars for statistics like speed and magic power. Players can choose to focus development on specific attributes, accelerating their growth at the expense of others.
These six metrics are combined into a single colored bar displayed above each unit, indicating its overall power level. The pinnacle is represented by the color white, a rank most commonly seen in formidable Tyrannosaurus like dinosaurs. Achieving this strength requires extensive combat training against high level creatures. Notably, animals also gain experience, but only when players die fighting them, as they are not aggressive.
The ultimate objective aligns with standard RTS conventions: eliminating all opposing forces from the map. The process of developing units from basic tribesmen to elite warriors against a backdrop of prehistoric fauna presents a challenging progression curve.
