Victory in Front Lines is determined by accumulating points through specific battlefield objectives, which must be completed within a set time limit while simultaneously thwarting the enemy's own goals. The game is a tactical wargame set in a near-future Europe, where conflicts involve national armies and corporate forces.
Players manage combined arms forces featuring advanced technology like laser weapons, powered infantry armor, hover tanks, and unmanned aircraft. The challenging core of play involves balancing offensive, defensive, and logistical elements across a series of land battles. Terrain types provide distinct tactical advantages and are modeled on real European geography, highlighting historically strategic locations such as the Fulda Gap.
It supports both single-player and two-player modes, with the latter allowing direct competition via modem. The setting's year differs between the U.S. and German game versions, being either 2020 or 2044.
