Elvira II: The Jaws of Cerberus Overview
Elvira II: The Jaws of Cerberus is a first-person game blending adventure and role-playing elements. The player's objective is to rescue the titular horror star and witch, who has been captured by the demon Cerberus within a film studio now overrun by real monsters.
Character progression is central, beginning with a choice from four classes that set initial attributes. Experience is earned through combat, exploration, and spellcasting, leading to level advancement and improved stats. Combat involves direct interaction with monsters, offering a selection of tactics and various discoverable weapons. Interaction with non-hostile characters is possible through brief, simple dialogue.
A significant system involves magic, enabled by a spellbook provided by Elvira. Spell creation requires the player to reach a sufficient level and possess specific ingredients, which are consumed permanently in the process. Prepared spells have a limited number of uses and cost Power Points to cast, which replenish slowly over time. These spells serve multiple purposes, from combat support to solving environmental puzzles, making resource management challenging.
Navigation uses on-screen directional arrows, while items are collected by dragging them from the first-person view into an inventory. A separate interface function allows reviewing all items located in the current area.
