Dragon Lord Overview
Dragon Lord is a DOS game where players assume the role of one of three rival wizards vying for a magical talisman. Control is exerted through the management and deployment of dragons, which are hatched and raised in the player's castle. These creatures serve as the primary means to influence a political landscape, where villages and cities can be terrorized into submission or defended to secure their loyalty.
A significant portion of gameplay revolves around a challenging alchemy system. This system is used to create spells that can strengthen dragons, affect settlements, or benefit the wizard directly. Experimentation with ingredients and magical equipment is central, though incorrect combinations can cause hazardous laboratory explosions. Success in this area heavily relies on consulting the provided Alchemical Table of Ingredients.
Strategic oversight occurs on a top-down map, from which dragons are directed on missions. This interface also allows for the management of conquered territories, including setting taxation levels. While dragon attacks on settlements often resolve automatically, players can optionally take direct control in an arcade-style combat sequence, manually destroying structures with the dragon's fire. Enemy wizards will dispatch their own dragons to defend areas under threat, introducing direct conflict.
