Chess Housers Overview
Chess Housers presents a puzzle challenge where a glove avatar must reach an exit in each room. The environment is a checkered floor populated by chess pieces that act as both obstacles and tools.
Gameplay involves pushing these pieces, which then slide until they hit a barrier. Different pieces have distinct behaviors; pawns travel straight ahead, while knights are required to destroy boulders by moving into them. Rooks pose a direct threat by jumping onto the avatar if it enters their line of movement. The player can also interact with transparent boxes, choosing to push them to clear a path or remove them entirely.
Control is through keyboard or joystick, with directional keys defaulting to a spread layout. The original release features CGA graphics with selectable palettes and basic speaker sound. No save system or passwords are present, making progression challenging. Later versions would expand on these technical aspects.
