Blue Force Overview
Blue Force is an adventure game designed by Jim Walls, known for his work on the Police Quest series. It incorporates authentic police procedures into its gameplay, maintaining a design philosophy consistent with Walls' earlier Sierra titles. The visual presentation draws from late SCI engine games, utilizing detailed backgrounds with character sprites created through video capture.
The narrative begins in 1984 with an undercover operation where a criminal escapes, leaving behind a crucial item. This event is followed three days later by the murder of two agents, John and Jackie Ryan, witnessed by their young son Jake. Eleven years later, Jake Ryan graduates from the Academy and joins the Jackson Beach police department, where he investigates a case involving stolen National Guard weapons, hoping it may connect to his parents' unresolved cold case.
Player interaction is managed through an interface that displays the complete inventory at the bottom of the screen. Core actions such as walk, look, talk, and use are accessed via the right mouse button, offering a different control scheme from the designer's previous games.
