Slap Fight MD is a vertically scrolling shooter for the Sega Genesis. Its core gameplay involves collecting power ups to cycle through weapon options, allowing players to build ships with extremely wide firing patterns.
The release contains two distinct experiences. One is a direct port of the 1986 arcade version, offering configurable difficulty and a choice between original and arranged music. The other is a full sequel built from the ground up with new stages, bosses, visual assets, and a complete soundtrack.
A unique defensive mechanic allows players to discard all accumulated power ups to trigger a large explosion that clears the screen of threats. This provides a strategic last resort during challenging encounters.
