Astro Rabby is a top-down platformer featuring a rabbit navigating scrolling stages. The player must jump between platforms of varying heights, which are visually distinguished by size.
These platforms can crack upon landing, and those marked with a question may yield power-ups like extra time or points. A hidden heart within such blocks is required to complete a level, which otherwise repeats. The game becomes challenging as platforms, especially in space environments, are limited and can collapse if already damaged.
Enemies are present and must be dodged or defeated using a gun. Defeated foes sometimes drop items that provide more ammunition or enhance the rabbit's jumping ability and movement speed.
