Woody Woodpecker Racing Overview
Woody Woodpecker Racing is a top-down kart racing game for the Game Boy Color that adapts characters from the cartoon series. Its mechanics are directly inspired by the Mario Kart series, featuring tracks with boosts, ramps, and environmental hazards. Power-ups, including rockets, oil slicks, and invincibility, are collected by driving over star blocks.
Two primary tournament structures are available: Extreme and Grand Prix. Both use the same set of twelve three-track tournaments across sixteen unique courses. The challenging Extreme mode reduces the number of competitors as players advance by meeting qualifying positions, while Grand Prix maintains a full field and awards points for final placements. Winning gold trophies in these modes grants points used to purchase improved vehicle components.
Initially, six out of ten racers are selectable, with the remainder unlocked through tournament success. For solo practice, Sprint mode offers a single race against AI opponents, and Time Trial allows runs on empty tracks, optionally with a ghost car recording for comparison. The game also supports two-player competition via a link cable.
