Roland Garros French Open Overview
Roland Garros French Open for the Game Boy Color presents a lighthearted take on tennis, distinguished by its exaggerated cartoon visuals and unconventional venues. The perspective remains fixed behind the player during matches, which adhere to standard tennis rules within a single-elimination tournament format starting at the quarter finals.
Initial selections are limited, with only five of the eight total players and four of the twelve tournaments available. These beginning events are based on real-world Grand Slam tournaments, with the Roland Garros French Open being the sole officially licensed one. Victory in these unlocks more fantastical locations, ranging from street and beach settings to venues in Antarctica or on the moon.
Characters, including players, officials, and spectators, are rendered with a distinctive style featuring oversized heads. Player control allows for a range of shot types such as forehands, backhands, volleys, and lobs. This entry stands as the series' only release on the Game Boy Color platform.
