Phantom Zona is a puzzle game set in a school that serves as a covert headquarters for rival groups. These factions engage in conflict by exchanging riddles rather than physical force.
Combat revolves around solving these riddles. A player selects from multiple answers, with a correct choice harming the opponent and an incorrect one causing self damage. The victor is the side that sustains the least damage, making the gameplay challenging as it tests knowledge under pressure.
The Game Boy Color version utilizes the system's infrared port. New puzzles can be generated by pointing the device at common household items that emit an infrared signal. Additionally, puzzles can be exchanged between players using a standard link cable.
