Metal Walker Overview
Metal Walker is a Game Boy Color title that adapts the creature-collection framework into a robotic future setting. The narrative follows Tetsuo, who partners with a scientist and his own robot to pursue rogue machines after a personal tragedy on a technologically advanced island.
Exploration involves gathering Data Packets and engaging in combat with numerous robotic opponents, termed Walkers or Metal Busters. Instead of capturing them, defeating these units yields scrap metal and Capsules. These materials are central to progression, as they allow for the upgrading and evolution of the player's primary Walker, with scrap being convertible at a Junk Shop.
Battles depart from traditional turn-based systems by incorporating physics-based mechanics. Attacks involve ricocheting shots off arena walls, and skillful angling can hit multiple enemies simultaneously when facing groups. A rock-paper-scissors style type system exists among Land, Marine, and Sky Walkers, influencing combat effectiveness.
Over one hundred distinct Walkers with individual traits are encountered, including boss units that gate access to new regions. Players can establish base camps for recovery and use a Link Cable for versus battles and exchanging camp data.
