Hexcite: The Shapes of Victory Overview
Hexcite: The Shapes of Victory is a puzzle game built around a seven-hexagon playing field. Its turn-based design allows two players to compete on a single Game Boy Color system, with a link cable option also available for separate consoles.
Gameplay involves placing geometric shapes like triangles and parallelograms onto the hexagons, with each new piece required to share a full side with an existing one. Strategic play focuses on setting up situations to claim bonus points, which are awarded for completing a full hexagon or for positioning a shape so it contributes to two scoring opportunities simultaneously.
The session concludes when no more legal moves remain, either because all pieces are placed or the remaining ones cannot fit. At this point, a player's score is reduced based on any unplayed pieces, with more complex shapes like hexagons incurring a greater penalty than simpler ones like triangles. The title originated in Japan, where it saw multiple Windows releases and a physical board game adaptation.
