Disney's The Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure Overview
Disney's The Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure for the Game Boy Color adapts both the original film and its sequel, Simba's Pride, into a side-scrolling platformer. The ten-level structure is divided between the two stories, with the player controlling Simba first as a cub and later in his adult form.
Standard navigation involves running, jumping, and climbing. Enemy encounters utilize a basic combat set where Simba can pounce, swipe with his claw, or, as an adult, use a roar to scare foes away. The game occasionally shifts perspective, such as in a top-down, auto-scrolling level based on the wildebeest stampede. Progress between sessions is managed through a password system.
Levels contain several types of collectibles. Stars contribute to earning extra lives, while beetles restore health. Finding all five pieces of a special amulet in a level unlocks a bonus mini-game before the next stage. These mini-games, which are also accessible from the main menu, involve activities like collecting falling insects, a simple tennis variant, gathering worms, or a timed search for Pumbaa.
A separate two-player mode is available via link cable, featuring a game of Tag where players as Simba and Nala compete to hold onto a star. The core experience is a fair adaptation of the source material, built around traditional platforming mechanics and collectible hunting.
