Dance Dance Revolution GB is a Game Boy Color adaptation of the rhythm series. Its song selection consists of eighteen tracks, which are remixed versions of music from the 2nd MIX and 3rd MIX arcade releases.
The control scheme is adapted for the handheld, using the A and B buttons to correspond to specific directional arrows. This design addresses the challenging nature of executing jump combinations using only the directional pad.
Players can engage with the music in several ways. One mode allows for unrestricted practice on any song and difficulty. Another focuses on achieving high scores to climb rankings, while a separate option facilitates direct score competition between two players.
