Ultimate Spider-Man Overview
Ultimate Spider-Man on Game Boy Advance adapts the comic's Venom storyline into a 2D side-scrolling format. The narrative, presented through comic-style cutscenes, sees Spider-Man and Venom as playable characters three months after the latter's supposed demise, with Queens under threat from gangs and mercenaries.
Gameplay is organized into seven issues, each containing three chapters. Objectives typically involve reaching a level exit, but often include secondary tasks like rescuing civilians or disarming bombs, sometimes under time pressure, with an on-screen indicator guiding the player. Several chapters are dedicated entirely to boss confrontations.
The two protagonists have distinct mechanics. Spider-Man utilizes a finite web fluid supply for attacks, traversal, and immobilizing foes, requiring power-ups to replenish it and his health. Venom cannot use power-ups and must consume defeated enemies to counteract a constant health drain. Both can scale walls and ceilings and perform combo-based attacks, while permanent upgrades for Spider-Man can be found to increase his web capacity or unlock new moves.
