The Jungle Book Overview
The Jungle Book for Nintendo's 8-bit systems is a 1994 platformer adapted from the Disney film. Its ten stages require the player, as Mowgli, to gather a set number of jewels found in the environment or left by defeated enemies.
Combat involves a mix of jumping on foes or using collected weapons like bananas, boomerangs, and nuts. Ammunition for most weapons, along with health-restoring fruit and special items, is obtained from enemies. One such item, a shovel, unlocks bonus stages.
The game's structure alternates between these collection-based platforming stages and boss encounters. These battles feature antagonists from the film such as Kaa and Shere Khan, though Mowgli also faces his ally Baloo the bear. The pacing is fair, with a boss appearing after every other main level.
