Samurai Deeper Kyo adapts its anime source material into an overhead beat 'em up. The narrative follows several characters from the series, including Miibu Kyoshiro and Shiina Yuya, on a dual mission to find a killer and prevent the demonic Kyo from possessing a host body.
Gameplay involves selecting one of these characters, each equipped with a unique weapon, to fight through linear stages filled with enemy monsters. A CPU controlled partner assists throughout the journey. Combat is expanded beyond basic attacks through specific button combinations that unleash a variety of special moves.
