Monster! Bass Fishing Overview
Monster! Bass Fishing is a fishing simulation for the Game Boy Advance. Its title refers to a scoring mechanic where extra points are awarded for landing exceptionally large fish, rather than suggesting mythical creatures.
Players engage in two primary modes. The Free Fish option allows unrestricted angling in any unlocked area. The Challenge mode imposes tournament conditions, including a time limit and a designated fishing location. Tournament success, determined by total fish weight and monster bonuses, unlocks new areas and awards trophies.
Gameplay involves selecting a lure and casting. A fish finder display provides color-coded information on nearby species, though its readings are not completely reliable. Hooking a fish requires maintaining line pressure; too little slack allows escape, while excessive tension breaks the line. The process is fair, focusing on lure selection and careful reeling.
Post-catch statistics are recorded, including a picture and size of each fish. The six largest catches can be stored in a virtual Aquarium for later viewing. Strategic boat movement is possible on location maps, but consumes time, a factor to consider during timed tournaments.
