Metroid Fusion continues the narrative established in Super Metroid, placing Samus Aran in a new predicament. Her mission to assist researchers on SR388 leads to a life threatening infection by an organism called the X parasite. Survival comes through a vaccine derived from a Metroid, but the situation escalates when the orbiting Biologic Space Labs facility suffers an explosion.
The player navigates a large, interconnected environment in this side scrolling adventure. Progress is tied to acquiring new abilities and weaponry, which in turn allow access to previously unreachable sections of the space station. The core objective involves uncovering the mysteries surrounding the X parasite within the compromised labs.
