Hugo - The Evil Mirror Overview
Hugo - The Evil Mirror on Game Boy Advance is a 2D platform adaptation of a 3D title from other systems. The narrative centers on the witch Scylla, who captures Hugo using a magic mirror to remove him as an obstacle before targeting Hugolina. To rescue him, three troll children must traverse over thirty side-scrolling levels across distinct world locations.
Gameplay involves platform jumping and confronting enemies such as beavers and soldiers. A primary mechanic allows characters to freeze foes into ice blocks, which can then be shattered from a height to yield health items or coins. Each major location concludes with a boss encounter that guards a fragment of the broken mirror needed for Hugo's release.
The adaptation's presentation differs between handheld versions. While the GBA release includes video sequences resembling those from the PC and PlayStation, the Game Boy Color counterpart uses still image slideshows to convey the story. The core objective remains reassembling the mirror to free Hugo for a final confrontation with Scylla.
