Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is an action role-playing game where the player controls Nathan Graves, who must defeat a resurrected Count Dracula within his castle. The game's structure departs from earlier level-based entries in the series, instead presenting the castle as a single, interconnected environment to explore.
Progression is tied to discovering artifacts that grant Nathan new abilities, which in turn unlock further areas of the castle. While his primary weapon is the Killer Whip, his capabilities can be modified through equipped armor and accessories that alter his statistics. A defining mechanic is the Dual Set-up System, which combines two cards to produce unique magical effects; for instance, pairing specific cards can imbue the whip with elemental properties or summon creatures to aid in combat.
