Babar to the Rescue Overview
Babar to the Rescue adapts the children's book elephant into a video game structured around nine sequential levels. Progression through these stages is tracked on a map, with brief story segments depicted through static images.
The experience cycles through three core gameplay formats, each revisited with thematic variations. These include side-scrolling platforming sections where Babar navigates environments like jungles, burning savannahs, and frozen landscapes, collecting crowns and utilizing vines and platforms. Another mode involves controlling vehicles in top-down, vertically scrolling races, first in a car, then a speedboat, and finally a motorcycle, where the player must gather items and avoid obstacles. The third format places Babar in a hot air balloon for a side-scrolling obstacle avoidance sequence, which bookends the adventure.
A distinct platforming segment introduces swimming and underwater exploration, requiring Babar to manage an oxygen meter by returning to the surface. The game places a consistent emphasis on scoring, maintaining a record of the player's highscore.
