Hover Tanks Overview
Hover Tanks was one of those games you'd find buried in a Flash portal, a simple 3D shooter that ran right in your browser. It came out during the peak of that era, when a quick game during a study break was just a click away. The graphics were blocky, the colors were bright, and it loaded almost instantly.
You control a tank that glides over a flat, grid-like arena. The moment-to-moment play is about constant movement and quick aiming. You use the WASD keys to strafe and circle opponents, while the mouse controls your turret and fires your cannon. The main objective is straightforward: destroy the other tanks that appear, wave after wave, to rack up a high score. The pacing is relentless; as your score climbs, the enemy tanks become more aggressive and accurate. You learn to use the arena's boundaries to your advantage, cornering foes or dodging their shots. The difficulty builds steadily, pushing you to stay alert. It feels like a tense, fluid dance of evasion and precision fire.
