War Diary Overview
War Diary is a real-time strategy title set in 16th century Korea, where opposing armies compete for dominance. The core economy revolves around managing three primary resources: food, wood, and metal. These materials are essential for constructing buildings and training military units, though they can also be converted into money through trade to fund other purchases.
Base construction is organized around a central city hall, which defines the buildable area for the eleven other structure types. Military production is a two-step process: soldiers are first trained at barracks, then must be individually dispatched to a weapon factory for equipment assignment. They can be outfitted for one of three combat roles: shooter, melee fighter, or artillery. Weapon quality varies, affecting both cost and effectiveness in battle, and these arms degrade with use, requiring periodic replacement.
Beyond standard troops, other units include watch towers, ships, and monks. Monks provide support to fighting forces or can summon ghosts. Both individual soldiers and defensive structures can gain combat experience from engagements, which improves their capabilities over time. Managing these forces involves monitoring the health and equipment durability of each unit separately, even when they are organized into groups, making the logistics challenging.
