Oscar Overview
Oscar is a game where the player navigates a protagonist through themed environments based on Hollywood genres. Progress is achieved by collecting a specific number of statuettes, which are the game's namesake awards. The structure allows for non-linear progression, with completed tasks unlocking doors in a central hub that grants access to various stages.
Each stage presents enemies that must be either evaded or defeated, typically by jumping on them. Defeating foes and gathering certain items can grant temporary abilities, such as breaking walls, enhanced jumping, or periods of invulnerability. The core challenge involves platforming through these areas to locate the required collectibles.
Different versions of the game feature altered content. While the original presentation includes seven distinct worlds, the Amiga 32CD release adds two more, and the DSi version incorporates a unique one. In contrast, the SNES port reduces the total number of available worlds to four.
