Disciples of Steel presents a top-down two-dimensional world where all elements are represented by symbols. The player manages a group of eight adventurers, whose creation draws from familiar fantasy archetypes.
Exploration occurs on a grid-based map, with icons marking the positions of the party, creatures, and environmental features. When conflict arises, the view shifts to a more detailed tactical map of the same style, where actions are resolved in a turn-based manner.
