Airlines Overview
Airlines is an economic simulation from the mid 1990s where the player manages a commercial airline as a corporate entity. Initial control is over a fully owned stock corporation funded by several million dollars in capital.
Core gameplay involves purchasing aircraft with varying operational specifications and then establishing their flights on a global map. This includes setting routes, determining ticket prices, and selecting cargo types. Once these parameters are configured, flights proceed autonomously.
Player activity is largely focused on strategic oversight from two primary interfaces: the world map for operational planning and statistical screens for financial review. Key management decisions revolve around fleet expansion and, when necessary, selling corporate stock to address monetary shortfalls. The simulation also incorporates unpredictable occurrences that require attention, such as labor strikes or fluctuations in fuel markets.
