Power Quest blends fighting game mechanics with role playing elements. The player controls a student who participates in battles using customizable robots, aiming to progress through tournaments.
Currency earned from defeating opponents in the town is used to purchase upgrades, enhancing the robot's capabilities for greater challenges. This progression system ties directly into the main tournament structure.
Outside of the primary campaign, the game offers a straightforward arcade fighting mode where one of six selectable models can be used. A separate versus mode allows for two player matches via a local infrared connection.
