Yogi Bear: Great Balloon Blast is a puzzle game set during Jellystone Park's Balloon Fest, where Yogi Bear attempts to steal picnic baskets by posing as a balloon salesman while avoiding Ranger Smith. The primary challenge involves clearing a screen of colored balloons that descend from a moving cloud.
Players control a basket holding two balloons, which can be rotated and have their colors swapped before being launched upward. The core mechanic requires grouping three or more matching colored balloons to make them disappear. The game's pacing is challenging due to the constantly moving cloud, which forces careful timing for balloon placement.
Special balloons containing arrows will raise the cloud's height when matched, providing a temporary advantage. Failure occurs if the balloon mass reaches the bottom of the play area. Every fourth stage introduces a boss encounter where Ranger Smith actively interferes by dropping stones that can force an early balloon release and stun the player.
