Bomberman Quest is a top down action RPG. Its narrative begins with the protagonist's spacecraft suffering an emergency landing after the theft of its four rocket engines. This event also results in the escape of numerous captured monsters.
Gameplay involves traveling across four distinct lands. Progression relies on interacting with local inhabitants to gain assistance. Character advancement is achieved through collecting upgrades, which include bomb components and abilities earned from vanquishing monsters.
The experience includes a separate battle mode for two players, facilitated by a link cable between Game Boy Color systems.
