BattleTanx Overview
BattleTanx on Game Boy Color reimagines its Nintendo 64 counterpart as a top-down 2D action game. The setting is a post-apocalyptic United States where a devastating virus has decimated the female population, leading to societal collapse and rule by violent tank gangs.
Players follow Griffin's quest across five major cities to find Madison, undertaking three missions in each location. Objectives during these fifteen story missions include eliminating enemy forces, securing specific items, or navigating to a designated point on the map. Progress in this mode is recorded using a password system.
Gameplay involves operating one of three distinct tanks, each with unique weapon attributes. Defeated enemies drop symbols that replenish health, while power-ups discovered in the environment provide advantages like homing missiles, reflective shots, or temporary invisibility. A separate battle mode allows for the independent play of any level outside the main narrative.
